Winchester m1886, s/n 1

Post by Ray Newman »

Rock Island Auction has Winchester m1886, s/n 1 on the auction block. Just received the auction flyer. Rifle was presented to Col. H W Lawton for capturing Geronimo. Rifle, .45-70, looks to be in exceptional condition. Start counting the egg money!

JNYork, et al -- see page 16 on the "flip-book":

I receive flyers for the RIA auctions and there always is some unusual firearms and shooting related items listed for sale at auction. Well worth it to sign up for the flyers.

Dang. I was cruising through the the posts and those 4 magical numbers caught my brown eye....(the ones on either side of my nose.....not the one that looks like a chocolate star fish). .....1...8....8.....6..........

Serial number 1????? Oh Lordy!!! No such luck.......it reminds me of the 1886 I was forced to pass up back in the eighties for lack of money.......iirc. $800. Serial number 33333

Best I've done is Colt Lightning #58....Remington Keene #47.....used to have Winchester Model 61 #16....have had a number of 3 digit ones.

Oh well...got a match on Saturday and after the match I'm gonna bust out Serial #3375 ......from a 1918A3 BAR......for a hundred rounds or so-----6
