I wonder what the "rest of the story" is? All too easy to sucked into gut reaction when there might be an all too plausible reason.

For feeding a live dog to a bear? I'd be thrilled to hear your idea of an excuse for that.

I had to wonder why someone would make that choice.

Looked to me like the bear had them stuck on top of a shipping container.

I'd guess that he was trying to use the dog to startle the bear to drive it off. The dog was frightened to immobility to begin with being dragged to edge of the container. Throwing it maybe 16 ft to impact on ground in front of the bear probably didn't enhance the pups natural courage.

In any case, it doesn't look like the big plan worked out.

If he'd thrown his wife to the bear, I might be on his side in this thing... Like... What choice did he have...?

Yep, dog vs. wife might have been an "iffy" choice... but dog vs. child? Sorry rover, off you go!

Except the laughing and carrying on kinda removes the dire need stuck on the roof scenario.

Exactly. And, where did "stuck on the roof" come from?

I didn't get that impression.

I heard a short "laugh" but no "carrying on". I read that as someone mocking the dog 'idea'

It does not appear to be for sport or entertainment.

I wish I could understand what they were saying. Some of the commenters claim to but who knows. If they were trapped maybe it was nervous laughter. I know I tend to laugh when death seems imminent just before taking the leap. After deliberating a bit, a polar bear loose in a village would have me up on a roof too. I would have to exhaust any and all other options up to and including a sharp stick before feeding it a trusted friend. I've put down a favorite dog after it grabbed a little girls pant leg, but that is different than feeding it while alive to a bear.i would have to agree with Griff that it's easy to speculate, hard to know without having the whole story. As a dog lover it's still hard to watch.

Town where polar bears are prone to roam, and nobody anywhere has a rifle of some sort? I'm still holding to beating this bastage to an inch of his life.

(Not having watched the video (on my phone))

If this wan in AK, ANYWHERE I had a TINY chance of encountering a Brown/Grizz/Polar bear I had a Casull with 5ea 2200 ft/lb loads somewhere on my person.. If only in my "man purse".

Where the bears eat the trees they run you up, you carry proper bear medicine. Period.

Sigh.
