Inexpensive small hidden long gun safe

Post by JohndeFresno »

Many expensive versions of a hidden safe have been offered over the years, running hundreds of dollars.

I happened to find a small metal wall safe that can be mounted between two standard 16" studs that is much more affordable. It is currently sold by WalMart and Dean Safes online, and possibly several others.

If you are interested, Google This:
Stack-On IWC-55
For around $100, you can get a California DOJ approved, easily mounted metal cabinet that holds a couple of rifles or your shotgun and pistol or similar limited items. It is apparently easy to put together and provides a smaller inner shelf and a rubber mat for the floor, helping to protect your firearms. It is secured in three spots - top, bottom, and in the middle with a locking mechanism that is operated with a double bit key lock in the front.

Don't get the one at eBay, they want $175.00 for the same item that is offered for around $99.00 to $125.00 elsewhere. If you go to a brick and mortar store that stocks these, you will save $35 or more in shipping.

In my heavily regulated state, the significance of a Calif. DOJ approval is that, with the locked cabinet, you can more likely avoid the almost inevitable lawsuits and/or criminal prosecution if a child or any unauthorized person gets hold of or steals your guns - whether through misadventure or even burglary. (I know, I know... stupid laws and greedy, over-entitled lawyers).

Wow - that is the best price I have seen, especially if one has Amazon Prime with its free shipping. 95 Bucks delivered.

As noted in the reviews, this is just for one or two long guns at the most, but it seems to be ideal for that home defense shotgun and a handgun without investing several hundred dollars. It only takes a little imagination for one to find a location, and perhaps covering or object in front of it, that makes it invisible.

I was checking out one of those as an install in an RV.....The RVs I'm considering have a ton of storage under the mattress, and you could lay one down on it's back.
