Overcoming adversity

Our club hosts a metallic silhouette shoot every Friday morning, we get 30-35 shooters out at 0800 for a morning of fun. The average age of these folks is over 70, most of us are still fairly spry but a few have health-related mountains to climb.

One of our guys shoots right handed, but macular degeneration has robbed him of his right eye. He tried shooting left handed for a while but couldn't quite make it work. Being a gunsmith, he devised this offset scope mount so he can still shoot right handed and use his left eye. Not a new idea but well done and keeps him on the range.










Another fellow has to use a walker to get around. He has one of the fancy type walkers with wheels, a seat that folds down, hand brakes, etc. He has devised sort of a rack for his rifle , works great, he gets around and shoots just like the rest of us:



Goes to show, don't roll over till you're dead .

It's inspirational, for sure.
I've sort of dug myself into a hole. Being physically uncomfortable while doing things leads to sitting around gaining weight, and gaining weight leads to more discomfort etc, etc... With the nice weather, I'm promising myself to get out and move around a bunch.

Just a shot downrange to give you an idea of our targets. Further targets, rams, are at 100 meters , all targets are fired offhand.

Excellent ideas, I'm sure that shooting is one of the last things I want to give up due to age or ill health, those gentlemen have real grit.
I like the range too....

Can make one right reticent about voicing commonplace aches and pains in a group like that!
