New SAA
Stumbled onto a nice 90 percent Colt SAA today. Its a second generation 5.5" in .357.
I would have rathered a 4.75 but with the price and condition there was no way I could pass. Sorry for the crappy pic.

Re: New SAA
So glad you saved another one. I don't know what it is about me but I have a soft spot for the Colt SAA. I try to find good homes for all of them I come across.
The 2nd gen have modern steels and heat treat and I think make the best shooters. Nice find.

Re: New SAA
Thanks guys, really.
The fit and finish isn't like my first generation but its still pretty darn good. And I really can't complain about the condition.
I didn't steal it, but I think it was worth 1200 all easy.
I will get some better pics. Can't wait to shoot it.
My two boys are already mooning over it as 5.5 is their favorite.

Wow, nice snag. If I found one for that price I would grab it up too. Have fun shooting.
Re: New SAA
Yeah, it seems really nice. As soon as the weather straightens out I will get out and send some slugs downrange. I will get some better pics too.
It's not as cool as my old 1st gen .45, but I couldn't afford a 1st in the condition this one is in.

Re: New SAA
Jay,
NOW your talking the good stuff! What year? As you probably know, the earlier, the better and if it's an early sterly job, you stole it at 12. Either way, it's better than money in the bank as Colt is having a lot of issues at the factory and I'm predicting a demise of civilian guns.------6
(can I have it?)

Re: New SAA
Thanks bud.
It's not as old as I'd like. A quick check said around '70. But hey, a new one would'a set me back more than that.
Thought I might score the box too, but sadly it was gone. I just ain't as lucky as you.
Sorry Jack, I'd gladly have sent it too you but my kid is already making a list and I think this is on it.

Maybe you have a couple of gunfighters on your hands. The 1 1/2 inch longer barrel is a little easier to pick up when your not looking right at it, as in shooting from the hip.

I told my kid yesterday he must be onto something. Clint Eastwood always packed a 5 1/2 when he carried an SAA.
But I still like the 4 3/4.

Re: New SAA
You picked up a real fine Colt, shoot it and enjoy it. I have a second generation 5.5" .45 Colt that I bought in 1959 and it sure is a fine shooter.

Re: New SAA
I will say, the action is really nice. Timing and lockup is crisp and tight.
I've got a first generation 5.5" .45 that is like a bank vault and I didn't expect this to be as good or better but it is. The trigger is better on this one too.
May shoot it tomorrow if I get a chance.

While nobody will mistake my pics for Kirk's, these are a little better.
Took a couple of the the .357 with the Remington and compass my Grandfather carried as a Maine warden in the Allagash during the late 30's and 40's.
Took one with my old .45 too.
