Henry Rifle stolen from Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, PA

Post by kaschi »

A very famous Henry Rifle (SN 115) was stolen from the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg along with a pair of Colt revolvers. The Henry Rifle had been presented to President Lincoln's Secretary of War (Simon Cameron of Harrisburg). The Colts were supposed to have been presented by Sam Colt to Cameron in 1861.
It's said that Harrisburg paid a six figure sum for the two revolvers in 1996. The alarm system malfunctioned at the museum and as a result, the guns were stolen.

On another but similar note in Harrisburg, a prototype of a submachine gun was also stolen at the Outdoor Show a couple of weeks ago.

Wonder how the alarm system malfunctioned the same time the thieves chose to break in? Sounds fishy.

What self respecting collector would want to even touch them with a ten foot pole. These are thieves of the lowest kind.

The museum is beautifully done, but it's in a bad area unfortunately. A diamond in a goats rear end. One has to watch themselves and their family very closely in the parking lot and take necessary precautions.
