Marlin 336LTS

Post by Boomer45 »

Just got back from my business trip and as usual took a few spare minutes to check out some lever guns at one of the shops I was near. They had a lot of Winchester 94's, all in 30-30. Lots of Marlins also, 2 45-70's, several 336 30-30's, 3 444's and 3 35 Remingtons. What caught my eye first was the Marlin 336 RIFLE in 35 Remington. Yes, it had a 24" barrel and at first I was excited. After looking it over real good I saw that the stock had been replaced and did not match the fore arm. Still liked it though. Next I saw a 336TS in 30-30 with 18 inch barrel, straight stock. This was a pre-safety model and it still had the tags from the factory on the fore arm I was really liking that one and was on the verge of putting it on lay a way when I noticed what I had originally thought was another Winchester 94 but was actually another Marlin 336LTS. This one was a 30-30 with a 16 inch barrel and straight stock. It does have, as Old Savage so eloquently put it, the "Coveted Cross-Bolt Safety", but that is okay. It is in great condition with only 1 very small ding in the wood on the stock. Otherwise excellent. Does not look to have been shot much if at all. That one is now on layaway. Holy cow guys, that make 3 Marlin Leverguns this month alone, the 35 Remington, the 444 and now this really nice 30-30. Guess I am one of those "Bitter Americans clinging to my guns and religion" :D

Congrats Boomer, but if you keep at it, at this pace, you may have to be put on prescription medicine. Your disease may be outstripping your ability to cope. But most guys here have been there too, the pull is strong!!!

Ya Know, I looked in the safe and I noticed way more levers then bolts. The bolts sre disappering and the levers are multiplying. Also noticed the same phenomenum going on with the wheels and bottom feeders. Way more wheels then bottom feeders. Maybe its my age

Ahhh, Boomer. Seems we have been bit by the same bug. I just bought another 35 Rem on line. The first one hasn't been shot yet and I have another on the way. The first one is a 1988 model, plain but good shape and has a lot of character. It just looks like it wants to be my Pal.

The new one is very nearly a new one. 2004 336c blue and walnut, with a Bushnell scope and "only 15 rounds fired through it" We'll see.

I know that some, maybe most, don't like the button safety on the new Marlin's but I like them a lot. Both mine have them of course.

What is it about marlin 35 Rems? They're like puppies. Every time I see one I want to give it a good home and take it hunting with me.

I'm hopin I will snap out of it, but I kinda doubt it.

I've been debating, whether or not to sell my 1963 Sporting Carbine .35 (2nd from the bottom, below).
As you can see, I've got a few levers & it's been peeped.
