Peep sights.

Post by samb »

Peep sights I loved them when I was young. Still like them a lot though my eyes prefer a scope.

On a hunting trip last fall my little boy taught me something. " Dad, I can't see a thing thru that little hole", he says in reference to his Savage Rascal. I said "let me see son", unscrewed the peep sight and said "how's this"?

He shouldered the rifle stared thru the large 1/4" by 1/2" rectangle the peep sight attached to and centered the front sight, "ping ping"he started hitting the steel targets someone had set up in this old hunting camp we found. " That's much better Dad", he said.

I could hardly suppress my grin.

We finished the shooting session, put the guns in the truck and began a snowball fight.

Best two day hunting trip ever, did not see a thing except a couple deer within the city limits of the little town we stayed in.

That's what I'd call "quality time" !

I'm sure that memory will stay with him forever.

Good on you !

I have the same problem your son does! I use Hadley discs on my peeps or tang sights, as they have a variety of apertures that can be quickly turned to, and allows me to select a size that works for my eyes and shooting conditions.

See my old post for some pictures of 'peep' sights, including through-aperture views...
