I was surfing levergun pics, and ran across what I thought a rather neat/elegant solution for folks who want to add a carry strap to a levergun w/o altering the rifle or it's stock.
Their website shows multiple platforms (firearms) that they make products for.
Nice. The eyelet that the lower sling swivel connects to is mighty close to the edge. I believe I would have made it a little farther away from the edge for strength or as far in as the swivel would allow.
I understand the desire not to alter an historic collectible, but I really don't see a problem with a neat and professional installation of a sling swivel stud. If the firearm is a museum piece merely for looking at, that is one thing, but most firearms are destined to be used, so why treat them as museum pieces...???

Another option I've seen here -- years ago -- involves a simple leather loop around the barrel, and then a 5" piece of leather is secured at the back end under the butt pad; the rear of the sling is easily attached to a 1" tab of the leather that comes out from under the bottom of the butt pad and the screws of the pad hold it securely to the gun.
I saw that idea AFTER I posted about adding QD swivel studs to a nice Marlin .38-55 Cowboy -- that I wish I still had............

A piece of tough suede leather under the buttpad would certainly do minimal damage to the 'original state' of the gun. Use of a wraparound style for a long time might wear the finish or even the wood, a bit.
For that matter, unless the gun has lots of recoil, or the shooter is only wearing a t-shirt, one could replace one of the buttpad screws with a QD swivel stud. I doubt it would make the gun all that unpleasant to shoot.
