Hmm, the big thing is detachable high capacity magazines, right? Well what if we belt fed an AR? No magazine, and it would be semi-auto so...

Hmmmm, take a time machine back to WW II. Mount two of those in the turrets of our bombers and give that a try.

I wonder just how long that big box of ammo lasts with that three barreled gun?
Not long I'll bet.

The answer to a problem we had with the mini-gun not having a big enough punch and the M-2 Browning (.50 Cal) not having enough rate of fire out the back of the helicopter to put rounds on target. In Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa we tried all. This is the best of both a slower rate of fire than a mini-gun (7.62x51) with much better punch and not the problems with size as a Vulcan (20mm).

A few times I would have loved to have had one.

When did the quad 50 cal come out? Was it the end of WW2 or during the Korean War? That would solve a lot of problems too.

I'd love to have a Vulcan, but don't think My pickup truck could take the weight...

WWII, but it took a big truck to supply all the ammo those things could tear through.

And, watch it start to go T.U. after the first couple hundred. They are NOT made for sustained fire. (Hence, the 3 shot burst setting)

Merle,

The B29, P61 and I think the A26 had quad 50 turrets. These came out towards the end of the war. The B17s, B24s, B25s, B26s all had twin 50s in the turrets.

The 3 barreled guns would sure put a wall of bullets out there ....

Thank you. I have never seen any pics of aircraft with quad 50's, only truck/trailer mounted guns.

Merle, some of the later versions of the P-38 Lockheed Lightning had 4 of the .50 caliber guns mounted in the nose. The early versions had only 2. I consider 4 of them mounted in the nose to be a quad. The P61 Black Widow, often used as a night fighter, had a remote control quad .50 mounted in a turret on the top of the plane toward the back.

OK, thanks. I had seen pictures of B-25's with 6 or 8 fifties in the nose. IIRC, those were used in the Pacific, mostly to attack Japanese shipping.
