Shoot-through. . . bayonet. . . ???

I just saw this when I was browsing MidwayUSA. Never knew they made such a thing.

Re: Shoot-through. . . bayonet. . . ???
From the Midway advertisement:
"The Mako Shoot-Through Tire Deflator is a barrel attachment that quickly installs on Mil-Spec AR-15 flash hiders. The rifle can still be fired with the tire deflator attached. Designed for use at security check points to disable a vehicle's tires quickly. "
WTF...??????
Perhaps I'm missing something. Are they suggesting that a security guard...faced with a potentially hostile situation that already rises to the level of needing to poke a hole in a tire...is going to poke a hole in a tire, rather than take a significantly more effective steps to terminate the threat.
What in God's name do they think poking a hole in a tire is going to do anyhow..???
Like I said...I must be missing something. I would appreciate someone explaining this to me.
Thank You.

Re: Shoot-through. . . bayonet. . . ???
Kinda my thoughts as well. I suppose if you had other guards already aiming their weapons at the driver's head, it might be appropriate. It also seems like it would be risky to have your weapon 'tied up' like that, even for a few seconds. Better to have a separate 'poker' for the tire if that's really your goal (or just fire a round into it - doubt the ricochet would be significant after going through two layers of tire and hitting pavement).guido4198 wrote:From the Midway advertisement:

Re: Shoot-through. . . bayonet. . . ???
In a way, this reminds me of my Dad's description of his bayonet instruction during basic training in 1943. The instructor told them that on occasion your bayonet will hang up in the body of your foe, and if it did the solution was to fire a round and let the recoil dislodge it. Dad's question to him was, "Sarge, if I have a round left why the H*** am I using my bayonet?"

Sure, they call it a "Shoot-Through Tire Deflator", but it's really for spearing zombies.

I went through basic in 1961 and we were given the same instruction. I knew enough to not ask questions.

It's just to look cool and menacing as a bayonet. At least they thought to drill gas relief holes for when you plug the muzzle with uh...tire materials.

I used that same line on a Marine lance corporal - he wasn't amused either.

Re: Shoot-through. . . bayonet. . . ???
obumma's folks don't want any shooting going on until the muslims attempting to enter a secured area are specifically identified as "Radicalized Muslim Terrorists", so the soldiers are instructed to detain the intruders by flattening a tire. That way the DOJ and Secretary of State have time to run a background check, interview friends and relatives and have a meeting to determine if more force is needed...

Another item designed and marketed for the Mall Ninja crowd.
Re: Shoot-through. . . bayonet. . . ???
I do not understand the bayonets for pistols either, I was instructed that the handgun was used to enable you to get to a long gun, shoot and scoot, why am I standing here trying to poke a body when I should be moving?

It's in Barry's new ROE. Don't hurt the terrorist, but mildly irritate him.

The pick side of the M1 Fire Axe works really well for deflating tyres. One of the best/fastest ways of stabilizing a vehicle before patient extraction.

It just goes to show that you don't need to make something useful if you have a good enough salesman.

You can also achieve the same result for $178 less. i mean, if you can shoot through it, why shoot through it?
Slow is just slow.

Hmm, we must have been in the same places. Well at least the same circumstances. Sometimes it sucked being the short, relatively skinny guy. But I did manage to crawl into a few vehicles that were, uhh, somewhat compacted.Old Ironsights wrote:The pick side of the M1 Fire Axe works really well for deflating tyres. You mean like crawling in through the rear window and over/around the guy doing B pillar neck stabilization so I could get into an uncomfortably "familiar" position, head down in a lap, to be able to reach a compound femur fracture and manually pinch off an arterial bleed whilst my comrades use power tools to disassemble the remnants of the car that surrounded us?

Yea, sure. But we was young and dumb. Besides if we tried to bend that way today we'd be pushing the "help I've fallen" buttons.Old Ironsights wrote:You mean like crawling in through the rear window and over/around the guy doing B pillar neck stabilization so I could get into an uncomfortably "familiar" position, head down in a lap, to be able to reach a compound femur fracture and manually pinch off an arterial bleed whilst my comrades use power tools to disassemble the remnants of the car that surrounded us?

I suppose it IS more 'politically correct' to have this on your weapon, "to deflate a tire if needed", even if the actual potential use is as an actual anti-personnel [ ] bayonet...44shooter wrote:It's just to look cool and menacing as a bayonet. Okay I looked carefully at this "thing". No imagine sticking it into someone. Where is the blood and guts going to go. Right into the barrel. Gets all sticky and clogged up (not to mention corrosion issues), then you pull the trigger. That could be kind of thrilling.

I had a good friend who fought in the Pacific during WW2. Once we became good enough friends that I could ask him questions I once asked if he'd ever had to use his bayonet. He said "Naw, I always used my trigger"!
I can picture sticking this bayonet into a tire & instantly the suspect stomps the accelerator to the floor. Not a good deal?
