I am back in Pemba, Mozambique.

Post by JimT »

So yesterday I was waiting on someone and I see this thing moving around in the grass. I thought maybe it was a rat but it was moving too slow. Then I thought it was a bird but it wasn't moving right. I got up and went over to see and it was a large round ball of poop that was rolling around. Behind it was thing little beetle really working at moving it and doing a great job.

Here is a short video clip of the beetle ..

These beetles cut out fresh stuff (cocô in Portuguese) and make a ball of it and then roll it to someplace where they have a hole dug. They will lay their eggs under it and the heat of the poop (cocô) helps hatch them. The young will eat the poop (cocô) till they get bigger.

This beetle reminded me of some folk who ... when life hands them stuff (cocô) ...spend their lives rolling pelosi(cocô) around but actually end up making something out of it. They are the real heroes of life.

(edit comment: the automatic translator removed my foul language .. ahaaha ... love it .. "when life hands you pelosi" .... well you get the idea ...)
