2016 Henry .223, .243, .308 Levergun
Similar in form & function to the Browning BLR, but not the same exact gun.
20-inch round polished & blued barrel, detachable STEEL flush-fit box mag, gear-driven action, 6-lug rotary bolt lockup, in-hammer-face sliding transfer bar "safety", matte-finished hard-anodized receiver, checkered walnut, solid rubber pad, trigger does NOT travel with lever, 7 pounds empty, side ejection, initially offered sightless for scope mounts.
An interesting departure for the company.

A .223 with slightly reduced loads would be totally cheaper to run than the .22 mag, and kick more butt....DPris wrote:It do.

Interesting indeed.I like the BLR and have worked on them(stock relishing) but never owned one.
Henry's are well built and have excellent factory backup.

Re: 2016 Henry .223, .243, .308 Levergun
Cool news. One in .243 would be a dandy for neck shots on deer with 100 grainers. Shot a brass octagonal 45 Henry last week end with 250 grain cowboy loads. Recoil like a rim fire, really. Never shot a lever in 45 before. Neat, but heavy.
Re: 2016 Henry .223, .243, .308 Levergun
Dunno when they'll be generally available, the one here's a T&E sample.
Probably expect to see them show up by middle of summer at the latest, but don't quote me on that.

I don't have anything in .308, and this sounds like the perfect excuse to get something in that caliber. I don't really need it, but I am at the point where need has long since been covered.

Re: 2016 Henry .223, .243, .308 Levergun
Had one in 358 win for a number of years, only thing that was a pain, on it was the gearing system when it went out of timing, other then that , great rifle, would love to have one in the 450 marlin
Re: 2016 Henry .223, .243, .308 Levergun
Not on the site yet, too new.
Twist is 1/9 for the .223, 1/10 for the other two.
Mag capacities 5 and 4 & 4.
As I said- availability most likely by mid-summer at the latest. Probably sooner.
Can't give any specific time frame.
Looks like a nice rifle, and they take the barrels quite seriously.
The timing issue on the older Brownings was due to a nylon gear that was prone to....timing issues.
They later changed to steel.
Henry by-passed the nylon gear & uses steel from the git-go.

I know where they could sell one of those .223's...

I hope they'll offer it in the blued version. I really don't like all that shiny brass.

Dark matte-finished alloy receiver, blued elsewhere.
This is a TOTAL departure for Henry, no brass anywhere.
Looks & constructed like nothing they've done yet.

Re: 2016 Henry .223, .243, .308 Levergun
Interesting. It's an old idea. Patents similar to this go back to the 1800s.
That's an awfully short barrel for .243 --very loud it would be. If it sells, maybe they'll offer a full length rifle barrel, say 24" in .308.
I've read the BLR is a pill to put together. I wonder if they've improved on that.
I'm looking forward to hearing more about this rifle. Kudos to Henry.

Interesting concept. I kind of like the idea of the .223 as a unique varmint rifle.

Re: 2016 Henry .223, .243, .308 Levergun
For that .223, just call the nearest Browning dealer. They should have a nice .223 BLR on the rack. They were reintroduced a couple of years ago. Mine actually dates from the early 1980's.
Re: 2016 Henry .223, .243, .308 Levergun
Mo info:
Simpler breakdown & reassembly than the Browning, without removing the stock.
One-piece barrel, threaded into the receiver.
Browning has two-piece barrel, pressed into receiver.
Henry uses a better grade of barrel steel than 4140, and triple stress relieved.
Bolt is chromed.

Well you learn something every day. I looked at the drawings and sure as pelosi the locking lug barrel extension is screwed onto the barrel before the barrel is pressed in.DPris wrote:Mo info:
