Anyone here fool wth the 10mm?

Post by Bill in Oregon »

I've always been attracted by the possibility of a deer and hog-capable cartridge in a manageable semiauto.
Now that Glock is shipping the Model 40 MOS longslide in this caliber, I have gotten very interested.
Picked one up last week, and got a Lone Wolf barrel so that I can shoot heavy cast out of it safely.
Because of the awesome mounting system, I am also thinking about mounting a 3-minute Burris FastFire III reflex sight.
I am looking forward to finding out what this rig is capable of with a handloaded 200 or 215-grain WFN at 1200.
The 10 is no .41 magnum, but that's still some respectable horsepower.

If you're on Facebook, check out Roy Yeager.....He's quite the expert on building Glocks for hunting....

I wanted to build a long slide 10mm Glock for years and I finally did last winter, bought a frame and a Lone Wold slide and barrel. And try as I might, I just couldn't warm up to large frame Glock's grip. So I decided to part it out. Of course that was the very week Glock finally announced their factory offering. The story of my life. So when the parts finally did sell I took a real beating.

I was very interested in the Para long slide 10mm, but not THAT interested because of the price and that it was a Para. But when they announced that Para would be no more, I figured it was now or never.

So I've been playing with the 10mm for most of this year and my findings are..... I dunno. :D I'm still undecided. I carried it for a week hunting and enjoyed it's company. But the fact that I have a safe full of hunting revolvers that are all more powerful and more importantly more accurate, makes me question the value of it.

I bought the IAI/AMT longslide back in 91 or so and still have it. Have not shot it in years but remember it as a good performer with accuracy and power. Bought a Desert Eagle in 44 sometime close to the 10mm and shot a deer with it. That DE is quite the auto pistol.

I've got a Canadian 16-40 that I use in USPSA and 3-gun and it runs great. I don't understand why people are always so quick to down Para.

That being said, RIA is making a double stack 10mm that I would be looking into. If not the double stack, one of their SS guns may be in order.

A guy I know of on another forum has a small pile of 10mm glocks for carry guns for himself and his wife in Ak. They've had problems with functional reliability of the heaviest loads on the market. A different bullet profile or special handloads may help, I don't know, but they were able to get them working reliably with the heaviest loads. His inquiries to glock weren't very fruitful. He was told that those loads were outside the load range that the gun was designed to function with, and they didn't consider it a problem. If that isn't an issue, may be fine.

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?

A guess, but your sample of one that works well may not be typical?

I've seen a lot of others that run great.

Original Para's are a different animal.

I have one friend who's Para spent more time at Para then it did at his house. After it's 3rd or 4th trip back he sold it off dirt cheap. Another friend who had one that broke barrel links constantly. They were supposed to have made lots of improvements towards the end but the damage was done. Mine is a "higher end" one, frame ot slide fit is okay and barrel lock up seems okay, but lots of crappy MIM parts. It's not a gun I will put thousands and thousands of rounds through so it will probably be okay.
