Good article on two of my favorite carbines. I have a 5D on my Rossi .357 and a Marbles tang sight on my 1951 94 30-30.

I have a great AR-15 that my grandson Scrateshooter from Texas built and gave to me a couple of years a go. BUT, he knows that if something bad happens I will probably grab a lever gun first.

Remember Bestlever? He had a 30 WCF AI, and warmly loaded 130 grain pointy bullets. It was a two shot, of course, but he claimed some amazing ballistics for it, upwards of 2750 fps, IIRC.....His son had it, and called it the death laser.

I REALLY like the 125HP Sierras on coyotes... I need to try the Speer 130s...

I love this 1951 '94. I've always used 170gr "any" factory in it.
This was shooting it at 75(?) yards off my rolled up coat. The shots are numbered. Iron sights, of course.

I really like the 30-30 and I've read that article before, but I transitioned over to a Marlin 1894C and a Rossi R92 in .357 Mag because I only Mule deer hunt 10 days out of the year and shoot the .357 Mag in a rifle more. I also use the .357 mag for smaller stuff. Plus I find the .357 mag more versatile (.38spl) and cheaper to reload, just my opinion.

Good point, 30/30 can be loaded pretty cheap too.

I just finished reading the cast bullet article that "Bill in Oregon" is sending out. And of course it fits in perfectly with this "30-30 Rules" thread. Although since Frank Marshall is recommending a cast bullet of 185 - 190 grains at 1900 fps maybe he is really contributing to a "303 Savage Rules" thread
