PA State Silhouete Match

Post by 2ndovc »

Had a great time at the Penn. State Silhouete Match. My first time shooting a sil. match. Diidn't do great but at least I wasn't DFL!

Met up w/ John K. aka w30wcf. Super nice guy!

The McKean County Rifle club where the match is held. Only 20 min. from my cabin but I'd never been there.

I shot My Sister's Model 39 and my Rossi 92, 357 w/ 158 gr 38 Spl. loads. Both on the left. Always take along the 1895/ 45-70. The Win. 92 is the $150 beater 32-20 that I just got. The old girl can still shoot.
I didn't shoot the Rifle Cal shoot on Sun. AM since I had to get to get home.

I'm addicted! :D

Forgot to add one lady shooter broke the National record for the pistol Cal. carbine shoot. 50 out of 60 possible points!

Darn good shooting!!!!!!

It was a bit on the chilly side. I doubt it broke 60 on Sat. Beautiful day though.

I agree with 2ndov. I met John K. aka w30wcf, on Sunday and shot this type of match for the first time. What a great guy. So much information I could not retain it all. Had a great time and shot better then I thought I would. John is a first class guy and a pleasure to meet.

Couple more thoughts...

I was expecting to see a lot of guys showing off thier vintage Winchesters. Saw a couple but most of the Guys were shooting Marlins. Mainly Cowboy models and a lot of 357s.

The Small bore rifle shoot was almost all Marlins with a couple 9422s one or two Henrys and one Win Model 61.

The Big lesson I learned is I need a LOT more practice shooting offhand!!

And thanks Again to Jonh K. He spent a lot of time helping me get sighted in and spoting for me. Made the whole more enjoyable.
Can't wait for the next one!

Guys,
Thank you for the kind words.
I was more than happy to help out.
Glad that you were able to experience the fun of NRA Cowboy Silhouette!

Hope to see you both again in 2008!:D

Hey John,
How did you fare? Did they get a good turnout? I wasn't able to make it this year. It looks like the weather was nicer than last year.

Mav,
Sorry that you weren't able to make it in '07. They had the best turnout ever......48 shooters - smallbore; 45 shooters - pistol ctg; 44 shooters - rifle.

I shot my best scores to date in competiton on Saturday in smallbore and pistol ctg. I've been practicing more this year so that helped. On Sunday, in cowboy rifle I didn't do so well. Just didn't have a good brain-trigger connection!

In Smallbore I managed to win High Senior (good reason to get older) and hit enough targets to be on the State Postal Team.

In the pistol ctg. competition my highlight was hitting 10 turkeys in a row :D . (Thanks to 2ndovc's excellent spotting.) I now just need to hit 10 rams for my grand slam. Almost did it that day but missed #7.

Looking forward to 2008. Hope to see you then.

John,
Congratulations on your scores and the 10 in a row. Someone posted over on the Steelchickens website that Tiadaghton is hosting the cowboy states next year. I'm surprised that they set the venue and dates that far in advance. I hope to make that one.

Great shooting, John. I wish I'd had the time to get up to Bradford, but I was busy shooting poorly at the Ridgway regionals.
