The little WMR took three fox's last night by flash light but one was not retrieved so I returned this AM and found it. How we did not find it is beyond me.
We used the WMR because my rifleman forgot his bolt and magazine for his Sako85
So to get three of the four sighted I was proud of the little pipsqueak.
Later I needed meatloaf ingredients so started with the meat contents
I used a similar light load in my .45 M/L and toilet tissue for wadding!.....
Squirrels were my quarry, I can't remember ever hitting a flying target with it but I was more successful with my .58 and a heavier load but still with wads of toilet paper....

Spotted this one in my mother in law's garden when I was picking apples yesterday. Unfortunately it's an urban area and a gunshot would summon an armed response unit in minutes.

Quite correct, the last two I shot were in the middle of town, one with a air rifle and one with a CBLong, anything louder and as Perry says, armed response team would show up.

That is a good photo Perry.
Gamekeeper, I am glad it is not just me and an air rifle!
There are thousands of them boys, ten days or there about. Ten days and others will of filled the space.
The country ones take some hunting and a lot of luck!

Nath, I never would have tried an air rifle on a fox if it wasn't for your experience using one, however the fox I shot was at point blank range over a neighbours fence (with his permission) one .177 in the back of the head, instant DRT.
The country foxes where I live know all the tricks too!

As they would here also... well... if I were in the city!

There is a fine line between hobby & obsession! AND... I'm over it!!
No I ain't ready, but let's do it anyway!
IIRC, Nate Kiowa Jones has one almost exactly like it. At EOT one year I picked up what I thought was my wife's rifle, and when I handed it to her, she said, this ain't my gun... and pointed out to where alias should have been engraved, it wasn't. The fellar that owned it was standing around looking confused, as "his" rifle had somehow walked off."

Perry Owens,
Are crossbows legal where you are and can you use them for hunting? If so that would work for the urban areas.

Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes.

Crossbows are legal but any type of bow hunting is not. Also, broadhead points are illegal, so even if you argued that shooting foxes was vermin control and not hunting you could only use target points, which I would not want to do.

Perry, I am not aware of broad heads being ilegal! One can buy them easily and I have done so many times.

My local archery store used to only sell broadheads if you had proof you were going bow hunting abroad, but I have seen them on sale elsewhere. The whole thing about bowhunting over here is a bit of a grey area. Fishing with a bow is, I believe legal and fishing arrows can be bought easily.
I always assume in England if you want something more deadly than a sharp stick there will be a law about it..

Gk, you can only fish on the coast with one, not in land.
It is not illegal to buy, own or shoot broad heads.
It is commonsense really. No one can stop a bladed tip being fitted to an arrow.
Its use can be restricted.....if they catch you!
How all the nonsense laws came about hunting with archery equipment was down to ignorance and anti organisations sticking the knife in.
Bizarrely, hunting with a catapult is tolerated!
Thanks for the heads up Nath, I always thought fish were the only thing you could take with a bow legally.
The water I bow hunted was (so I believe) heading to the coast....
The game laws and gun laws in this sorry land really do need looking at, preferably by someone with at least half a brain, sadly, I don't think anyone in the government qualifies.

Enjoyed those photos, Nath. I am amazed that hunting with a catapult is legal there. I suppose there are no restrictions as to how large? I think I'd want something that could launch about 1,000 pounds of rocks, each the size of a grapefruit, so I'd have a better chance of hitting a fox at 100 yards. Reloading would not be fast, however.

Hi, Kirk good to hear from you. Hope your family is good.
I would love to hunt with a bow, officially that is.
Done right there is no issues, done poor it is no different than someone using a firearm poor!
Our Dutch neighbours have reintroduced bow hunting and there are no issues so what is different here I have no idea.
foxes (the legal ones, NOT protected...there are three species in CA) can be taken with archery and air guns.
talk about 'stupid' hunting laws...here in CA, you may hunt big game with center fire pistol with xx ft lbs ME, but you may NOT hunt big game with the 223/5.56...go figure.
if you think you're influencial, try telling someone else's dog what to do---will rogers
