Marlin Service

I purchased a brand newMarlin 1895 cowboy 45-70 through my dealer. After cleaning I discovered a constriction in the bore. It appears that someone went heavy handed trying to put in the rear sight and knocked a dent down in to the bore. You could see it with the naked eye with the bolt removed. You could also feel it with a tight patch. I took the gun back to my dealer who shipped it back to Marlin. I just received it last night 8 days after shipping to them. Barrel was replaced free of charge. I cleaned the barrel and cannot see anything amiss. This should not have happened with a new gun, though I understand everyone makes mistakes. I just thought everyoned should know what kind of service Marlin is giving these days. I am tickled.

As more people send their stuff back, cost to Marlin should dictate tighter controls on new stuff.

Maybe your problem created a new step in final barrel checks.

Does Marlin have a track record of late with bad quality control?

Occasionally someone will post an issue. Usually fit and finish problems. Marlins are great guns.

Do you guys remember my 1894CL? They rebuilt the first one, then had to scrap it, then ended up with pretty much building me a custom rifle. Perfect in every way, from the tiger stripe walnut to the factory test .625" 5-shot groups.

Marlin will make it right. They do value our business. Do you think GM, Dell, Black & Decker, etc would go out of their way like this to make a customer happy?

A small constriction under the dovetail cuts is very common, but it sounds like yours was pretty severe. Glad they took care of you.

Marlin's customer service is top notch. Let's remember they specifically target (pun intended) affordable guns for their consumers. Some quality issues are going to arise occasionally, but when they do, Marlin makes it right every time. I wish more companies would stand behind their products as well as they do! :D

Marlin service dept. has good people and have done me right in the past and they are quick.
I have a Rossi .45 Colt short rifle that you can see a shadow in the bore under the sight dovetails. Don`t seem to affect accuracy and I cant feel them with a cleaning rod with tight patch. :wink:

JMO, But there's more & more of that funky barrel stuff going on, than is realized.

For instance, Browning M-95 leverguns have a hard spot under the front sight ramp, where it was brazed on, that causes reborer's drills to wander.

I often wondered whether or not some gun I tried, whose accuracy wasn't quite up to snuff, had undergone some "barrel straightening" during/after manufacture - for another.

It is great, when Marlin (or someone else) stands behind their product - but it's a lot better when they don't have to.

I had a problem with my extractor. They replaced that it a hurry and I had it back 2 weeks after I sent the gun off.

Great, great service.

This one was really bad. The new barrel they sent has just a faint shadow on the two front dovetails for front sight and mag tube. You cannot feel them with a patch. I don't mind this too bad on a production rifle, even though I would prefer it not be there. I have had other rifles shoot well with the same Malady. Altogether I was really pleased with Marlin's service. The only thing more I could have asked was for them to pick up the shipping. They might have done that if I had asked but they didn't volunteer.
