I have a Winchester 94 AE BB 444 Marlin Timber carbine. So that is at least seven in the universe.

Arghhh! You guys are terible. You all have one or more of a rifle (Mosel 94 in 444) I hadn't even thoughtof. Luckily (for a change) I came up with several good reasons not to buy one. Now watch, in the next few weeks I'll come accross a nearly new one for a very good price and now I'll know what a great deal it is. Now I see why I'm beginning to really dislike this place

444 Marlin Outfitter
If anyone runs across a Marlin 444 "Outfitter" in decent shape, give a yell if you don't want it. I've been looking, I was not interested when you could just order one and buy it. But now it's gnawing at me. Quite similar to a Guide gun, if memory serves me. Bruce
To hell with them fellas, buzzards gotta eat same as the worms.

Read Lyman #48. They (Ideal & Lyman) have published quite a few reloading manuals over the years, decades and centuries. In the #48 they used a Winchester Timber Carbine in testing. All the porting may add to the problem. Other manuals use barrels as long as 24 inches. That is a lot of powder to burn in a short barrel. But it is still a fantastic whacker even in this lightweight and compact configuration! Get two and enjoy!
[Is the 444 the same caliber as the 44mag?]
[yes it is the same caliber bullet with much more power.]
Er......... Yes, and No. The .44 Mag and the .444 have identical bore diameters, and use bullets of the same diameter, but the .444 is a much longer cased, more powerful cartridge - and, No, the .44 Mag should not be fired in a .444 chamber like a .38 Special can be in a .357 Magnum.
Winchester only made three models in .444 - first the walnut-stocked, straight-grip, 20" barrel BigBore (BB94) carbine, then the walnut-stocked, pistol-gripped, 17 1/2" bbl Timber Carbine, and the synthetic, pistol-gripped Black Shadow (I forget that one's barrel length, as that one I never owned).

Timber Carbine
Mine has the "optional sound system" (ported barrel)! It's a great firearm. The only change I made was to mount a LimbSaver recoil pad to tame the considerable recoil from high power loads. My local gunshop had two of them a couple of months before Winchester announced their closing. I bought one and went back for the other but someone else grabbed it up. Mine wears a aperature sight and is great fun to shoot. I cast my own bullets, 245 to 330 grains. My favorite bullet is 265 grains from a custom mould made by Lee.
