Springfield M1A

Please bear with me as I ramble awhile. I just came back from my local gun emporium and put a Springfield m1a scout squad in layaway. I used the M14 in the Army and have thought about getting one often. Well, there it sat, a Springfield m1a in the new FDE stock. I am an old geezer and have always loved wood and blue steel firearms so my new found interest in FDE firearms is a puzzle to me. I have more lever action rifles and single action revolvers than any thing else but this new FDE craze has gotten ahold of me. All I know is that every time I see something in FDE, I think I should have it. Is this a new disease going around? Even though I had 1 AR(black) when I saw one in FDE I had to buy it. That was about nine months ago, and since then I have purchased 3 semi-Auto pistols, Sig Sauer 1911-22, Sig Sauer MK25, and a S&W m&p Vtac, all in FDE. I have even gone back to work part time to have some extra cash for my ???problem. And now, the Springfield, when will it ever end? If anyone knows a cure please advise. God Bless.

My M1A Scout Rifle would be the one I'd want if I had to go into the Gates of Hell - it packs a punch, is accurate, and holds plenty of ammo.

My best friend has a very nice M1A in wood and blued steel. Very nice rifle, AWESOME iron sights, not as charismatic as a Levergun or Colt pump rifle though. Of course we all know that! -Tutt

I had to do an internet search to see what it was, myself...

Likewise, I do understand the "M1A Thing" though - I pretty much don't care what kind of stock is on one - it is an awesome battle-rifle.

I got one of these last year -- standard full length wood model --- i dont feel as strongly about it as some of you guys' do, -- but i admit it is a great rifle so far --- pretty good open sight accuracy -- I havent played with it much as far as different loads or tried it beyond 100 yards --- but its a fun rifle and you will like yours i think

Just got one in Basic Black to go with my Socom 16.
Great rifles, I have The SOCOM set up w/ a Leupold scout scope. The M1a will be my open sighted
Long range rifle.

No better set of iron sights out there on any military rifle IMHO! I'm just not so keen on the 308. Now, if you could convert one to 358 W? That would be a weaner! LOL

yeah but a Sav 99 carries like a feather, lighter than a 556 carbine and lots more juice. except in the rpm category....

I like .308 also, for a small bore

I agree and carried this M-14 with a barrel I cut off at 16.25 inches into Iraq and a couple of other places in 2003 with the two pistols shown the M-9 does not show the suppressor.

The better to butt stroke someone with! Try that with an AR, especially the originals and you have two pieces. Well not really, it might survive, but there just isn't any energy to do much damage.
