Early in my daddy years I had a few, never really cared for a cat, stil don't.
In the early to middle 70s while living near Ionia, Michigan several businessmen quail hunters got together and bought acerage (full section) near me, gave me and a friend hunting rights to the whole shebang if we kept feral cats to a minimum. We done our part, that first year we took a lot of them, mostly from neighboring farms that strayed onto the land. But a quite a few that had been feral for a long time. I had a black lab that was a real cat dog, and was the greatest ally in our task. With the cat hunting, we asked and got permission to allow a coon hunter that also was a fox hunter to be able to use the land. Along with feral cats our number one target was possum. The quail population through planting exploded into a very good habitat. Pheasant, and grouse also became more abundant the feral cats also needed to be culled more often. This if you were into it could become a full time job that would pay well. I have asked my son who raises beagles if he could just for this purpose and his response was "It could easily be done" A full time caretaker for a game farm is nothing new.
