Winchester 1906 22LR slide is really tight

Post by hqm »

I just bought a 1906 Winchester pump 22 on gunbroker, and there is a ton of friction in the slide when cycling it.
ANyone know what typically might cause this, and how to fix it?

I took it down to two piece, and it's definitely the receiver/slide just exerting a lot of friction when pulling the slide back.
I don't know too much about the internals but nothing looks obviously wrong at first glance.

It very well could have the receiver pinched inward. I have done this myself to leverguns while having them in a vise. It only takes a few thousandths to bind up the action.

First, look in the grooves of the receiver and the corresponding parts of the bolt that ride in the grooves and see to it that there is nothing in there. Then take a micrometer and measure the inside top of the receiver from the back, middle and front...it all should be exact.

If it's pinched in...you got to spread it out. Take a 1" x. 6" block of wood or something wood and grind it in the shape of a fat arrow and drive in with a hammer. It will only take a couple of whacks to make it right.------6
