So I made a simple jig by cutting four 1/2-inch holes in a scrap piece of pine.
You put them in the jig, flip it over, and gently push down on the wood.
You get the results you needed:
And it starts to pile up!

How so (on backwards). Pushing them this way is the shortest travel to delink, and I'm not pushing down on the primer end.
