30-30 cast loads

Post by Hecter »

Am loading some full throttle loads with cast bullets. These will be for my 30-30. I like R-7 powder and 311291 bullet. Anyone have a pet loads with this or any other powder.
thanks for any info.

I use a Saeco #316 mold in a 4-cavity block... add gaschecks and load 'em up with 27.5 grains of RE-7... makes for 2190fps ave. and good accuracy in my 26" bull-barreled mdl 94 Winchester.

And trajectory data:

But I generally keep it zero'd at 150 yards:

I'm shooting the same bullet as Griff, but I load mine a bit lighter with 26.0 gr. of RL7. I'm using a pretty hard alloy of 4-1 WW and Lino, and water dropped. Haven't had time to shoot that load at 100 yards yet, but it clusters them all in a nice little group, usually all holes touching at 50 yards. It's running 2106 fps from my 20" '66 Centennial model 94, go figure. Anything more starts to open the groups up.

I use a lot of RL 7 in more than a few lever guns with cast bullets from 85 - 280 gr.
have one stubborn 94 in 30-30 that just wouldn't shoot anything, so I tried some H 335
with different bullets & I was shocked at how it shot them, it was like a different gun with most
holes touching each other at 60 yd where as before it was 5 -6 in.
