A very sad day for you and yours. I wish the best for you but I know that there is not much that can help.

Hang in there, and remember Sammy at his best. If you keep the memories, you never really lose them.

So sorry to hear that, TedH. As a dog lover myself, I know the pain you are feeling.

If it is of any help, the pain of your loss will lessen in time. The best thing is to get another puppy.

Sorry for your loss, been there,it doesn't get any easier.

Image

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said " it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.

Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.

Feeling for you Ted. We've been nursing out little beagle that's now 11 years old. She's not doing well either.

Truly sorry for your loss. Dachshunds can be very stubborn but also very loyal. I lost our Annie Love about 8 years ago and have not been able to get another dog since. We got her as a pup (she cost me about $150.00 per lb. ) and shared her love for 14 years. I'm 6-0, 225 lbs., raised in the ghetto by a Texan and an Okie, always thought of myself as a tough guy, but I cried like a baby when Annie died...

Sorry to hear of your loss. As a former owner of a mini myself I can say I know what your going through. Freya has been gone 4 years now and still missed and spoken of fondly. I had to have another dog right away and found a rescue Terrier Mutt and she has been a joy. Who rescued who?

Sorry about losing little Sammy. Reading that doggie poem didn't make it any better, since I know what it is like to lose both dogs and cats

Never knew a dog that was easy to lose - even bad ones - but the little Dachshunds work their way into your heart deeper than most. They are so tough and so aggressive, but so loving with people.

We just had to say goodbye to 5 dachshund puppies - all to god homes - but my kids sobbed for several days, and I kept getting dust in my eyes . . .

Wish I could have sent one to you. It hurts to think of your loss.

So very sorry. Dogs return the love we give them 10 fold it's hard to lose that love coming in.

First Blaine's Thor, and now your Sammy. I was having a hard enough time keeping it together, and then Mossyoak posts that painting and poem.
Wife says, are you reading another thread about somebody's dog dying?

e had a Dachsie for some 14 years. Wife#1 used to walk him in her little satin shorts and I never worried about anyone getting within twenty feet of her!
