Follow the Dollar.....The Remington Spartan line duplicates the H&R/NEF stuff.......The Roosky Stuff (which in my opinion is pretty good stuff) is cheaper for Remington, so....ergo sum
I hate this stuff

Also that part of Massachusetts has always had economic problems. It will add to the woes of the area. It makes me mad to see that happen. My Dad and I love our H&R shotguns. With our style of hunting we've taken a lot of deer and turkey with them. It would be wonderful to see them back in operation.
Personally I would not buy one of the Russian imports from Remington.I'd rather have something made by someone who lives and works in Gardner Massachusetts.

Not sure yet, but they shut down the Marketing Department, getting rid of those who have been there for years and know Bushmaster the best, moving that to Remington.ursavus.elemensis wrote:Not to take an off-topic post too far off-topic, but I'm curious, what did they do to Bushmaster?

That's a darn shame. Businesses are fleeing the Peoples' Republic of Massachusetts. On the one hand, I can't blame them, but it still hurts to see manufacturing go down the tubes.
When the blasted liberals are not dancing in the blood of crime victims, they are having orgies on the grounds of closed plants.
A handi-rifle with a couple of extra barrels was on my short list.
I suppose I should be saving my money for a ticket out of this socialist hell-hole.

The Remington Spartan line is pure junk. I'll never own any of it.

Or, English for the acronym impaired?

LEO - City/State/Federal Cops.
GSA - Government Services Agency - the Procurement arm of the Govenrment.
Pols - Politicians - in this case, McHillBama
POTUS - President Of The United States.

And here I was all settled on buying a Remington 7600 as my next rifle. I'm not sure I want to release my money to a monopoly.
I wonder if this has to do with why it's taking H&R so long to send me my extra barrels.

IMHO I think patience is in order. Global competition is eating out the heart of our manufacturing base (what's left of it). The big 3 (cars co.s)have posted big loses in the last two yrs. The gun industry is no different, they have to compete with companies worldwide. If they don't, they will fold. Investors do not put their money into losing propositions. They have to change too.
I have an inkling that they are only getting out of an unfriendly state. The tax base must be killing them. Similar to Kalifornia in politics, they, like anybody else, is looking for safe haven. Also, that they may have in mind a reintrodution of the line once they can streamline it & improve it with new manufacturing methods. Who knows for sure? If they can't turn a profit it will have to go.
I like H&R & NEF too. But, I will bide my time & wait & see. Like Marlin, I believe they were faced with a complete manufacturing overhaul & didn't have the millions that it would take to completely retool. Remington has the financial pull to make such an investment. H&R & NEF found safe haven with Marlin, perhaps they all will find safe haven with a good ol' company like Remington.
Perhaps, this is one of the only ways to keep them in the hunt...so to speak. What do y'all think boys?

...Two things to keep in mind.
...(1) This move is what many have been asking for, because of the firearms unfriendly attitude of the Mass. politicos. It takes away some of the taxes the politicos need to further their anti-gun BS. The people of Mass. elected the politicos, knowing their anti-gun stance, so now it's time to pay the price. And the price is jobs lost, and all that goes with it.
...(2) H&R, and their products, are survivors. The H&R Company went under once before, but they didn't stay down. That's the reason for two names ("H&R 1871" and "NEF") for the same basic product. Let's not bury them until we're sure they're really dead.

It really isn't accurate to label all of the people as anti gun in Massachusetts. The big problem is that the Greater Boston area has the political clout and tends to be anti gun. The politicians have a long history of granting jobs and favors in a form of socialism thus ensuring a secure vote.
As you go westward the state is more conservative. Gardner is one such area and as I stated before, seems to have economic problems.

Corporations tend to SAY a lot of things.DPris wrote:Remington says it's just closing that plant & the lines will be in production "for years".
No need to panic yet.
Sorry for the cynicism, but I feel you just can't trust big business.
Didn't Winchester swear up and down that they weren't going to shut down production in CT?

I wasn't aware of such things then but didn't the textile industry do the same thing about 50 years ago or so?
They moved their plants from the unionized N.E. to the non union south.
It could be a move along those lines.
It also could be another form of gun control? Boy that does sound like a conspiracy doesn't it? Have some big global NWO mega corp come in and buy the company and just shut them down.

Even I doubt this. If your goal was gun control, why start by taking out single shot hunting rifles and lever action cowboy guns.Rusty wrote: It also could be another form of gun control? This is just a large corporation doing what a large corporation does: Consume all competition and corner a market.

Y'know there is just no substitute for bad management's ability to destroy it's competition, just before declaring bankruptcy and bailing out with a golden parachute.
Marlin was a family business. It knew it customers. Now it is an asset to an arms conglomerate. I doubt the Marlin customer service will continue it's high attention to customer satisfaction for much longer.
Remember what happened to Harley Davidson when it was bought out by AMC. I sure hope it doesn't happen again with Marlin.
