Used Marlin 336CS question...
I spied a used Marlin on the rack at my local store, but I am wondering if it has been tinkered with. The barrel says it is a CS, but it has a 16.5 inch barrel and a youth length stock. Does this sound like a 'smith job to you guys, or a factory rifle?

I don't remember any such combination coming out of the factory - Maybe somebody with a M336 Youth Model could chime in.
Did you look at the SN to determine when it was born ?

No, I did note a crossbolt safety. And the barrel band was not centered, but placed directly behind the front sight.Pete44ru wrote:.

Sounds like your answer there.
But since 'Bubba' has already messed it up, I'd be all over it and demand a suitable price reduction since you don't know what else was done.
Far as I'm concerned, current Remlins are still not worth it, and even a crossbolt can be popped out and replaced.
I'm thinkin' ten years from now we'll look back and ask, 'why didn't we buy more of these?'

Wow, I think you nailed it!
Had no idea they were making the 336Y that far back - only thought it was introduced couple years ago.
If the price was right, even with the crossbolt safety I'd be all over this. Perfect size for a 'truck gun'.

Re: Used Marlin 336CS question...
No, it isn't a "Y". It is marked "CS", and has a walnut stock, with no checkering. I have looked at the current "Y", and I'd almost rather buy a Mossberg 464. They are only 379.00...
Re: Used Marlin 336CS question...
Configuration says, "Y", rollmark says, "CS".
Manufacturing lines have screwed up before.
