Marlin 1894 Cowboy Special

I've been looking at a Marlin 1894 Cowboy Special in .44 Mag. It is a short 20" octagonal barrel, straight stock, no checkering and has the cross bolt safety. It seems to be in almost perfect condition, except I suspect the buttstock has been refinished, as the finish on the buttstock is dull, whereas the finish on the forearm is more glossy. Can anyone clue me in to whether or not these are good rifles, and perhaps what one might be worth? Thanks! :)

I LOVE my .44 Cowboy. Mine is a 24". I enjoy it enough that I went out and bought another exactly like it and will buy a 3rd if I find it!

Should be great gun. I have the 357 20".

Provided that sheen difference is all you can find wrong with it, I say take it! :D
I've refinished almost all of my rifles, and while they don't look factory anymore, I like them and that's what matters.
You should be able to use the mismatched wood as a bargaining chip.

I too have a 24" Cowboy in .44 mag. and love it. Mine has checkering on both the butt stock and the fore stock.

I dont know what the 44 is like but I love my 357 and the blokes at the local lever action club with 45s love them.

These guys don't know ANYTHING. Those guns are absolutely TERRIBLE. Now, where exactly is this gun?... Phone?...
