Winchester 71 Regular model vs Deluxe model

Post by daisygordoninc »

What are the differences between a Winchester 71 regular and a deluxe model?
Someone told me my 71 was a deluxe model, I don't know what that means. I
have not seen enough of them to know what items a deluxe has on it vs a regular
model.

Checkered stock, pistol grip cap and sling swivels. And maybe a bolt peep sight, all factory installed, make up the Deluxe model,I think :?: . Some one with more knowledge will come along and hopefully verify this.

t-man is correct, however, both the standard and deluxe were available with the bolt peep. A little known fact, is that in the model 71 there were more deluxes made than standards; by almost a 2 to 1 ratio. In the carbine version, there were four times as many deluxes as standards, according to Bert Hartmans' research.

Like the mdl 64, both regular & deluxe had the pistol grip & fatter forend, the deluxe was checkered.

.

The Deluxe's sling swivels were not ordinary.

They were bases - the front integral with the metalforend cap; the rear integral with a base inletted into the buttstock's bottom line, which base was secured by two screws into the stock.

The QD swivel locks were wider than, say, a modern Uncle Nike's QD sling loops.

Further, the Deluxe was issued with a leather sling strap, from the factory.

Thanks, those help, I definitely have a deluxe model made in 1953 near mint. My wife found it at Cabela's for my birthday.
It appears to be original and almost new. I think she got a great price $1299.00. I talked to the Cabela's gun library guy and he said the person who traded it in didn't need much for it, thus the low price. I think my wife got a great deal on it. I do plan to kill a moose with it this next fall. I really like the peep sight, I'll be heading to Canada again this next fall. I've shot it a few times and it seems to be right on, I of course reload my own 348s.
