Advice on a Rossi Puma 92 .45LC

Post by voland »

New to lever rifles... quick question for the experts...

I picked up a 1995 (never fired, brand new for all purposes) Rossi Puma 92 .45LC at a garage sale for $200. Came with box and all the papers. I know that they sell for about $350 on gunbroker but I would like to know if this is a keeper or if I should look at selling it for a small profit.

My other rifles are much more "practical" (a .22 and a .223) and spend most of the time at the range so I am really not sure what I would use this for other then a nice mantle piece or perhaps a home defense piece.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Welcome and congrats on your new gun!

I'll offer you $201 for it...

Wish I could come across a deal like that. Now take 'er out and shoot 'er and let us know how it does.

Thanks! LOL, I'll post pictures when I get home today. I guess I should really stop being so concerned about practicality and just enjoy it for what it is... It will probably end up being my home defense piece and with light loads over penetration might not be as much of a problem.

You got a super deal, and should certainly be able to realize a tidy profit if you sell. I use my Rossi Trapper .45 for home defense, as a truck gun, and as a very easy-to-tote brush gun in the deer woods. If you don't reload, you're going to find it a bit pricey to shoot it as a plinker. But, if you are a reloader you'll find that the huge range of loads it'll handle make it tremendously versatile.

Well, you don't say where you're from, but a .45 Colt makes a mighty fine Deer & Hog gun...

I live in Dallas but I really dont hunt. I mostly go to the range and plink at paper. I did just start reloading for my .223 and .45acp so I think Ill pick up a die set and see what I can work up.

Sorry about the large pics...

Welcome to the fire! :D

NIB, pre-safety, and for a song. Man, I just once want to come across one of these deals before I depart this earth! You are a lucky man!

If it was me, I'd be similing every time I shot that one for the next 40 years, and be happy to know someday it will pass on to my son, then his, etc.! It's a keeper!!! :D

Well, seeing as you live near Dallas, I suggest you hook up with '86er and spend some time down on his spread near Hondo.

It's not that far of a drive and you can get to know some mighty fine critters & folks.

Just watch out for the Watutsi.

I have two of these, an older (pre safety) stainless 20 inch Interarms carbine, and a new blued PUMA trapper.

I have shot the trapper with a pretty fair variety of loads, it groups well with almost anything, but requires a lot of sight adjustment between standard loads and heavy "Ruger Only" loads. And it runs out of sight adjustment shooting 300 gr bullets.

I also have an EMF .357 carbine. Both it and the new .45 trapper are better made than the older stainless gun.

Maybe I came along too late, but the pics don't show up on my 'puter. :?

I have the EMF/Rossi "Short Rifle" in .45 Colt. It's a wonderful lil gun, great for plinkin' and until I get him a '73 replica it'll be his CAS rifle. I'll also use it for huntin' on ocassion. I live outside Dallas and keep it around for coyote control and "other varmits". I haven't had to use in those capacities yet, but my wife's fired it and liked it!

I'd say it is a keeper - enjoy it - soon you'll be looking for a single action pistol to go with it - then some gun leather - it keeps going and going....

I have a Puma in .480 Ruger and like it a lot. I also have a Ruger Blackhawk in .45lc that a Puma in .45lc would go great with. Guess I should look around for one sometime soon. It sounds like you got a keeper for a great price. Congratulations.
