Not easy targets with modern guns and ammo, so excellent shooting with a flintlock!.......

That is a very elegant flinter!
I know what a challenge it is to hunt with a flintlock, and I admire your skill. I have a Northwest Trade Gun that I would like to try on ducks, but we are required to use non-toxic shot such as Bismuth. That stuff sells for $25 per pound, close to $2 per shot fired! Unfortunately, I'm not that good of a shot!
I very much enjoy your hunting pictures; thanks for posting.

Good shootin
Re: a day in the woods.
I recently experimented with steel shot. Wrapping card in the muzzle first on an inserted wadding. It works but only at short range, about twenty yards! A good dog is a must!Shasta wrote:That is a very elegant flinter!

Nice shooting Sir! I could really appreciate a flintlock myself I think. But must confess that I have never shot one.

You're the huntin-est guy I know Nath.

So what bore/guage is your fowling piece? How much shot does it throw per load? Inquiring minds need to know! (anyway THIS ONE does!).

Mike it is a large 20g, .629". I run between 7/8-1&1/8oz on equal or less volume of powder. Usually on thin card and wet leather was.Mike Armstrong wrote:So what bore/guage is your fowling piece? How much shot does it throw per load? Inquiring minds need to know! (anyway THIS ONE does!).
It shoots a .562" ball heavy patched pretty good too.

Nice wing shooting Nath. Hope I get my 16 gauge flinter done by next turkey season. I can't hardly hit anything on wing with a modern gun. Don't know if I would try wing shooting or not with a flinter.

You will, it does take a lot of faith and determination though.hondo1892 wrote:Nice wing shooting Nath. Hope I get my 16 gauge flinter done by next turkey season. I can't hardly hit anything on wing with a modern gun. Don't know if I would try wing shooting or not with a flinter.
To be honest I struggle with mine with exception of going away birds!
16g will be a nice size indeed

To which thing do you refer? The bird is a woodcock and the gun is a Davide Pedersoli trade gun.Udy wrote:What he said.Chuck 100 yd wrote:First picture... I have never seen a Hummingbird that big before.
