Ah the broken arrows. A broad head with holes in it to the shaft center, and the rear end of the shaft made to snap off allowing blood out and air in. That came and went pretty quickly.... long ago.

perhaps for killing an un-alarmed bear. they are killed with arrows and spears. but a bear with the blood lust up? it's not a stopper in my guestimation.

No, not at all. While I am generally not in favor of frangible ammo in most calibers, especially pistols, it makes sense in this case.

The purpose is to limit penetration in a cartridge that normally really penetrates well.

Penetration is key for stopping bear. This is an anti-personnel or anti-varmint bullet.

The Lehigh bullets that we tested a while back were called "Extreme Penetrators" and they were. a 220 grain solid copper bullet. When we dug them out of the 8" stack of wet phone books they looked like you could reload them back in the .44 special again.

Awesome cat load for sure! But the real question is how well will these things perform at distance? like 300-400 yards? They must have a super super low BCE and I imagine they would lose velocity quite rapidly. I wonder how well they will group around 200 yards?
