I was sitting on the side of a hill at around 11 in the morning when this guy suddenly appeared about 80 yards from my position. After waiting for him to give me a good shot I finally fired and he went down in a cloud of smoke.
I was using a Uberti 76 Crossfire carbine in 45/60 for the first time in the field and my load was a 300gr
bullet cast from an original 45/60 mould backed up by 60 grains of FFG black powder. The bullets were loaded
unsized and lubed with SPG.Also I used a drop tube loading the black powder. My shot broke his back and he dropped on the spot only needing a finishing shot to end it.Not bad for a so called obsolete cartridge fired
from old time style rifle.Though I have shot quite a few Deer this one is at the top of my list .

That's a gorgeous whitetail! Wow! That 76 takes one back in time..done the way our grandparents did.. Thanks for sharing this with us. What state or province are you finding this wonderful time warp in? Les
This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!
I was born a gun owner.
It wasn't a choice.
I didn't become one later in life.
I was born this way.
That Uberti carbine is a fine rifle. A gun dealer near me has an original North West Mounted Police '76 carbine for sale. At over $8,000.00 it's too dear for me.
Great thread. Really nice rifle and buck, and you got it done. Congratulations and thanks.
