Would you have bought this 1894
Hello,
I was at a gun show and picked up a Marlin 1894 in 44 mag for 360$. It does have a few rust spots, good deal?. Could anyone date it for me 181310XX(should be 1982 right?).Also it doesn't have a safety(is there per-safety models?)

Right... 1982.Awsomepossum wrote:Could anyone date it for me 181310XX(should be 1982 right?).
Safety came later, after 100+ years of unsafe shooting.Awsomepossum wrote:Also it doesn't have a safety(is there per-safety models?)
Got pictures?
Re: Would you have bought this 1894
That is outstanding. What would be even much more better is if it doesn't have the nasty 1:38 twist barrel. It could have a ballard rifled 1:20 or so and would be a fantastic 405 gr chunk chucker giving original 45/70/405 terminal performance. Hope you got that one.

At least you didn't do like so many - and ask "should I have bought....", only to get told absolutely yes, then they go back and it's been bought by someone else.

I sold one for 70 dollars in the 70's. Cost me 400 to replace years latter. I think you did fine and my 1/38 twist Micro groove shot very well with the 240 soft point Remington's I used.
Re: Would you have bought this 1894
Yes. I sold mine years ago for more than that. Saw one today for over $700.

Funny that you should mention that. Targetmaster just got in a near new one made in 1973. Price is $499. As these have micro groove rifling, I passed it up.
I think you did real well on yours. A little steel wool and some Hoppes #9 will make that baby shine. ----6

Does it have an octagon barrel? I believe they had ballard cut rifling.

Although Marlin's website is listing ballard cut for all their 94's, round or octagon now.
