Resizing 25-20 down to 218 bee

Post by jdad »

Anyone have experience using 25-20 cases sized down using 218 Bee dies?
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Over on Marlinowners.com forum there is a 99 page thread on resizing 32-20 to 25-20. The first couple of pages forum member by the name of 35remington gives very much info on above & I am sure that it would apply to 25-20 to 218 Bee. After several attempt of 32-20 to 25-20 without success I read the method 35remington used and it worked perfectly for me.
I would not have thought of the way he used, plenty of other forum members used the same way after losing many cases.
Try it and it might be what you are looking for.

You should have no problem. It's a much smaller step than 32-20 to 25-20. The way described on Marlinowners is to use your seating die first and then your sizing die to do 32-20 to 25-20.
Kind regards,

Should be a no-issue issue. Take one 25-20 and resize it with the FLS turned one turn out, then try to chamber it.........if it don't work, turn the fls 1/4 turn down until it does chamber as you don't want to set the shoulder back. As most .22 center fires are decently and tightly chambered, you MAY have a problem with tight tolerances because of the thickening of the brass. In a case like that, you may have to inside neck ream, but unlikely.

If it all fails, drop me a PM as I most likely have several hundred 218 bee brass laying around.----6

With any of the thin cases I like to make sure the case mouth is nicely round before the size operation; I would use a 7mm or 30 cal spitzer to iron out any case mouth dents. Little dents (like you often see on new cases) can lead to a wrinkled neck. But this one is real easy -- set the sizer to give minimum headspace for your rifle and it is then a one pass operation. Kinda' funny looking shoulder before the first firing, though :D

I got some of that Bee brass from BlaineG and I found out that the original Bee brass is about 20% heavier than my 25/20 or 32/20 brass. They are making it heavier (and I assume stouter) in the base area. WW Bee brass from Blaine goes about 79 grains vs. 67 grains for my R-P 25/20 brass (these were once-fired with primer still in). So your Bee stuff made from 25/20 is going to have a bit more case capacity than the original manufactured Bee brass.

Sixgun & Blaine,
I'm going to try the resizing, but if I don't like the results................

I have plenty of new 30-30 and 32-20 brass to trade. If not interested in trades, PM me with what you want for 50-100 pieces.

Thank you very much.
