Starting new job Monday Wish me luck!

Post by BenT »

After 29 1/2 years my job got outsourced. I have known about it since November. Well the 1st of July they announced the company that was getting the contract. Of course they would like to hire me since I am trained. Which I could do but this whole thing has left me a little sour. Plus I have 2 high schoolers in the house and they eat a lot of groceries!

When this new company requested a resume , I also put in a resume at a nearby company for a position that has been open since February. I submitted an application to the local company one evening and by 10 am the next day they were calling me for a interview. The problem with looking for jobs is that everybody list pay as "based on experience". So having no clue on my value I added 10K to my current salary. Well to cut to the chase I got an offer at the interview . But having to give up six weeks vacation. I really wanted 4, they offered 3. So I left the interview telling them to send on official offer since I had other interviews. Well one day later I got a call telling me that I could have 4 weeks vacation plus they would give me 12k more than I make now. Even the good guys win sometimes.

I do field service on electro- mechanical and software. Well this job will be in house. So no more stopping by gun shops throughout my travels during the day. But my knees are shot and I am ready, not be crawling around concrete floors fixing stuff. A little desk time will be O K. Of course my wife says I need weight in on the first day.

Congratulations.

'New' jobs always intimidated me - new stuff, policies, and procedures to learn. At least it sounds like you 'know your stuff' from years of experience, so the first category is taken care of.

Glad to hear you found a job and increased your pay. Seems like most of the time you end up with less pay. At least these days.

Good for you, Ben!

did good - I hope you like it just fine.

Very good news for you. I'm jealous. Ready to retire myself and find a new career. 29 years is long enough to do the same thing.

I keep thinking about re-entering the "work-force". Then I think about that interview stuff... suits, haircut and that "businessman-like-demeanor"... and decide truck-drivin' fits me. It better... I just bought four more years of debt for a new engine!

Well done, BenT.

Right on, Ben! And even though you don't get to visit gun shops as often, when you do get to one of those gun shops you may have a little more of the green foldy stuff to work with!

Hope it's going well so far. Remember, sometimes the first week or two can be the toughest, if it starts to get to you take a walk outside and let things go for a bit.
