Anyone have good experience with Oregon Trail bullets???

Post by Mich Hunter »

I have been shopping around trying to stock up on bullets and brass(like everyone else), and my dad pointed me towards Oregon Trail. I have shot these in 44 mag and 454 and loved them. Also heard that even in 45-70 Marlin Micro groove, they are accurate. But I have never used their 30 cal bullets. Now I have heard great things about guys using these in their 30-06 bolt guns with no leading. I am looking for anyone that has used these in their bolt guns and any ups or downs they may have had

I've used their 170 gr gas check bullet (TrueShot) in my 30-30. Running at about 1900 fps I get great accuracy and little or no leading. I don't have any experience on game with this bullet though.

I'm stocked up on them, for my 32-20. I've used their 44, 44-40, 45-70, 38-55, 30-30, and 32-20 bullets without any problems.

Nice products, and very nice people.

My Brother lives in La Grande, Or. as we go on I-84 we pass thru Baker City, Or. I usually stop there and visit, and pick up several thousand bullets.

I use the Tru-Shot 170 gr. gas checks in my Winchester 94 30-30 Legacy.

I use them for plinking loads - the 115g in the 32-20 WCF and the 250 RNFP for my 45 Colt - I have been overall pleased with them. Cabela's carries them and I can use my points to purchase them, which is what I usually do.

I cooked up some .44 mag loads using their 310 grain bullet. They're quite the pentrators when fired out of my carbine.

I haven't chronographed them yet, but the recoil is more pleasant than a 240 grain factory load.[/img]

I used their 170 grain 30 cals once. There were no gas checks on them and it took me a week and a half to get the lead out of my barrel. The load was fairly moderate. I gave them to a friend and he melted them down into some 45 Colt slugs with a gas check and they worked for him.

Excellent bullets with gas checks.

I shoot a lot of em in 30-30, 30-06, 45acp, 45 colt and 45-70.

In 30 cal I use the 170 gr PB but if I drive em' over 1400 fps I put a gas check on them. PB they are great 5 grains of Red Dot in my 30-30. No leading issues and as accurate as jacketed bullets out to 50 yards. A little Lee Liquid Alox speeds them up just a bit according to my chronograph.

I've only tried the Tru-Shot bullets in 45-70. VERY good bullet on par for accuracy to the Beartooth pile driver jr. Now I'm casting Ranch Dogs so I don't shoot either very often anymore.
