New guy, New rifle

Hello folks, First time posting though I've been enjoying from afar for awhile now.
Although I have owned quite a few handguns over the years, and handled a Galil back in my army days, my experience with lever guns is pretty short. I had a Marlin 1895ss 45-70 guide gun, and loved it, and recently bought this Uberti 1873 .357 with 16.5"Bbl. after spending a long time in search of a Marlin 1894 in .357.
She's got a smooth quick action and is as accurate as my skills will allow.

I get a lot of grief for buying a lever gun chambered for this caliber, but I love it.
I'd love to hear your opinions and experiences, good or bad.

Welome Sabashimon, to this forum. You will most likely discover over a period of time, that there are some good and decent folks here, very knowledgeable about Lever Guns in particular as well as other guns, and everything from gun talk to political and even to the controversial is discussd here. Look forward to hearing from you here and there. Nice looking 1873.

Welcome aboard. You've got yourself a good repro of a classic levergun, and in a practical modern chambering. It should give you years of enjoyment and miles of smiles. There's nothing wrong with a levergun; they were the "assault rifle" of the 19th century.

Welcome to the forum. There's a lot of folks here that shoot 357's and love them. A little small for me and what I use my leverguns for. Beautiful rifle though.

The .357 performance improves so much when fired from a rifle that it almost seems that's where it belongs in the first place. People who make negative comments are these that just don't know any better, and not based on experience. From your comments on handling a Galil while in the military that you belonged to the Israeli Defense force. If yes, when was this? I ask because my brother in law was in the IDF and fought in the Yom Kippur War of 1973, just curious if you don't mind. Oh yes, and welcome to the campfire.

Ignorance is bliss Pard...just pat them on the head with your newly acquired knowing smile, realizing that they have NO IDEA what your talking about. You know and they don't. May be a good time for a little teaching on your part on the vississitudes (sp!) of levergunning.

Welcome to the forum. Nice rifle! My .357 has become my favorite lever. I alway's bring 2 or 3 different lever's to the range with me and my Marlin 1894 is alway's 1 of them. Good luck.

Welcome! .357 Mag. is a fine rifle cartridge and the 73 is a fine rifle. If it were mine , I`d only shoot cast in it and that way she will outlast me by a long ways.

Welcome, Shimon. You chose well, Amigo! Can't beat the 1873 or the 357 so you have a great combination. My favorite lever for action shooting is the Uberti saddle ring carbine in 357.

Thank you gents, for the welcome and the kind words.
I've always had a thing for lever guns, and am thrilled with this one.
She is for me a self-defense and bad times scenario (and plinking

) rifle. I sure coulda used it in a scabbard on my saddle back when I was raising horses and cattle on the Golan Heights in Israel!
If I don't do a lot of posting, it's not because I'm not here perusing, learning, and enjoying.

Ganjiro, I spent 3 years in the IDF (Armored Corps) from '83-'86, making Lebanon "my" war, and actually my issued weapon was the Glillon, which is the short version of the Galil...... but I wasn't sure if that would be as familiar a name..

I guess for the record I oughta come clean as to the rest of my firearms:
I have (and love) a Springfield Marine Corps Operator
An HK USP40 compact, an HK45c, a Ruger 3" GP100, and a Remington 870Police.
And if my wife doesn't divorce me first, I see a Marlin 336 30-30 in my future
