I refused to pay 2x the cost of a standard 1911R1 for a few "enhancement" that are not really needed.
Soooo, I bought a standard 1911R1 and added a Commander-type rowel hammer, before I gave it to my eldest Grandson.
My Grandson, like me, chose to do only the enhancements wanted, ILO swallowing whatever the factory deemed was needed - installing a different trigger and a set of carbon fibre grips. (YMMV)
Even the most sarcatic of us can agree that the 1911 is tried and true. I just haven't splurged on one before. I am pretty darn green on all things automatic.
Part of the attraction is I have a good quantity of 45 ACP I'm enjoying in my Ruger Flat Top that this R1 also shoots well.
I appreciate your feedback. I just don't ahve any experiance here, so that's where friends come in.
I know nothing about the new Remingtons so my comments are generic.
What is the 1/2" of threaded barrel for, a silencer? If so I sure don't want one on any pistol I own.
As for the new faddish "enhancements" I prefer the stock 1911a1 configuration with just a few upgrades. I dislike the Commander hammers on anything and I won't own a 1911 with that gawd awful wide beaver tail type grip safety. Yuck!
Like Pete44ru, I make 'em the way I want 'em not the way some dufass at the factory thinks I should.

I have not fired a Remington but have handled a couple. They were very well fitted and smooth as glass.
I have Ruger SR1911`s in 5" and 4 1/4" They are also very fine guns for the price point. These days one can spend $5K for a 1911 and that is beyond me.
OH! Count me into the `LIKE` group on the "Wide Beavertail safetys".
A couple minutes in the lathe would take care of the barrel.
Yes, if I didn't like the threaded barrel, I would just cut it off before buying a new barrel, and while some barrels are drop in, others are not, and the drop ins are not always the best fit, but you might get lucky.

I'm the opposite - I have gotten to LOVE the option of putting on a suppressor; it makes for less hearing damage than just using plugs or muffs (my ears rang yesterday even though I was using 28 dB 'muff' protectors, just shooting a Garand). Plus, it is a great way to get a newbie interested in shooting without flinching and so on. It does change the 'balance' of most firearms, but with my Ruger 22 semiauto, I find it shoots more accurately with the suppressor on.
