It looks like the NYPD spend an unknown amout of time, money & manpower, when they stopped Alec Baldwin for riding his bicycle on the wrong side of the street, then took him in for a positive ID, and further arrested him when he objected.
There was a time when you were supposed to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk or shoulder facing traffic, so you could see the cars coming, not try to be one of them.
I guess those cops didn't watch Pearl Harbor with him as Jimmy Doolittle bombing Japan.
I don't particularly care for the guy , or his politics. (His acting is OK/so-so.) But I almost think he has a bulls eye on his backside, for all the poo he gets into.

He is a self-important leftist hack who brings it all on himself. Couldn't happen to a more-deserving putz!
I'm not into the like/dislike for Baldwin, but my point was that (IMHO) LEO's, especially in a large city, have much better things to do than critique/ticket cyclists.
Maybe those guys were p.o.'d that the coffee shop was out of their favorite donuts.
One of my co-workers has a brother who is a cop in NYC. They have special units for foot and bicycle and skateboard and segway and.....traffic. The city is so congested that they have to have officers working "Foot Traffic" control...they have had people seriously injured just from "Rush hour" sidewalk traffic.
Don't be quick to judge what a cop should or should not be doing when it comes to enforcement. And if Baldwin got mouthy with them and refused to quickly show them ID...yup he gets a ride to the station...that would be the case in NYC or Denver or small town Texas.
As to the donuts....well most "Cop Shops" have a good supply in the break room...another reason to roust Baldwin....goood excuse to go get coffee and a donut at the station........
Mouthy little "sew-n-sew" got what he deserved. For as long as I can remember, on any conveyance you go with the flow of traffic, if on foot, you face traffic.
