336 Wood

I have an eary 50s 336 Texan that I plan to replace the wood on. Any suggestions on where to buy would be greatly appreciated.

Are you wanting to upgrade the wood, or just replace damaged original wood with something functional?

Boyds has them a lot cheaper than Midway.The problem is that any pre finished stock may not fit correctly on the lower tang.In the older marlins there was a lot of variation in the width of the two tang s top to bottom.Thus almost all butt stocks were hand fit to the action.If you look at the butt stock of an older Marlin where the stock goes into the receiver ,you will see the stock is Numbered to the guns serial number.

Please keep in mind that, except for Treebone's (which are special order), replacement stocks all will have the M336RC's pistol grip - which will needs be rasped off straight for your Texan & then also refinished (likewise most used non-Texan wood.
The inletting for both straight & PG stocks is identical - with the caveat that since Marlin fits each stock to it's related receover/tangs, and is SN'd to that receiver, minot refitting may be required for installing a used stock (and most likely any replacement stock also).

IME, straight grip buttstocks are unobtainium on the used stock market - since most conversions are from a PG stock to a straight grip.
