Weaver/ Redfield scopes
Please school me on when and why The Weaver/ Redfield names both we're put on scopes.
Did Redfield by Weaver or visa versa?
I did not want to hijack the "classified" thread.

Re: Weaver/ Redfield scopes
The Redfield sight company bought the Stith scope company originally and later Leupold bought the Redfield name . Weaver at some point was purchased by the group that owns Simmons scopes I believe.I believe at some point the same folks that own Simmons also bought the rights to the Redfield scope mounts.

Are you sure on that information? Reason I am asking is I though I read somewhere that Leupold also bought the rights to the Weaver scopes.

Weaver got it's name from the founder W.R. Weaver.

Most likely, the reason you're confugled is that the Weaver scope seller has inadvertantly included a pic of a similar Redfield scope, in with his pics of his Weaver scope F/S pics. .

.

I always assumed (wrongly) that Jack Weaver had something to do with the Weaver optics company
