That is a lot of money and work, seems you could get a new rifle for the same amount of money.

Sure, but sometimes the joy is in the doing.

I may actually look into the trigger mod (someday) for mine...

Wasn't as much money as the author let on, as 450$ was for the scope , which can be used on anything -- ditto for some of the tools he bought (crown cutter, etc) --- i can only see he spent about $400 on the Mosin modifications themselves -- which is about what a new Savage or Ruger sporter , or entry level Rem 700 costs though

--- some guys just like to tinker i guess

Spending hundreds of dollars to turn a $100 rifle into a $65 rifle.
Slow is just slow.

The pin that holds trigger is sometimes sloppy. I drilled through the holes one size bigger and installed a machine pin properly
sized and lubed. If the bolt is stiff and tight you can take apart the bolt and cut the firing pin spring down 1/2 a coil. It will take some
of the excessive pressure off the bolt and lighten trigger. It will also create alittle trigger slop which there is a fix by installing a spring
inside trigger. There is a youtube vid on it.When putting together bolt make sure to line up witness marks so youre fireing pin is in
adjustment. Other than that you can polish the bolt lugs and where the bolt handle cams over the receiver. You can turn them into
an average bolt rifle. It doesnt sound great but it is fun to play with. I hear some are real shooters with properly sized cast bullets and
Unique powder. If I ever shoot up all my old Russian ammo I might go that route!

My MN is my "Eternal Project Gun". I love to tinker with it. There are a few more things I really want to do it (thread the barrel for a flash hider/comp, swap to a Bent Bolt, engineer a new way to affix the bayonet that no longer fits...) etc, but like I said, the joy is in the tinkering.

It cost me $90 + FFL. Why not tinker?
