Saved By the Cold Weather
My wifey likes to take my 3/4 ton diesel 4/4 truck to work in town when the weather is icy. She called last night to report the door lock popped and the ignition ripped out. The would be thief did not know that when the temp goes below 25 degrees, the 7.3 motor is REAL cold natured and won't hardly start without plugging in for an hour. Temp last night was about 20, thank God.
I am fully insured, truck is at the dealers, security is checking for a nice pic of the scumbag, who tried to steal a truck parked right under a street light, cops dusted for prints. I thank God the wifey did not interrupt him in the process. He should be glad I did not catch him, tie him in a knot, put him in the toolbox till spring and introduce him to my friends the western diamondbacks at the ranch.
Time to install a hidden kill switch in all three trucks. The truck arsenal was unmolested. No tools missing. I cannot tolerate a thief.

octagon,
After you do it, I would like to discuss it with you in PM.
I need to do it for my trucks.
Living so close to the border all of my trucks are high on the "steal" list.

Anything you can do to make it harder on them would be beneficial. Most thieves would look in and see a club on the steering wheel and move on to an easier target.BlaineG wrote: On thieves....

Real glad somebody got a break due to the cold weather!
As you say it was a good job your wife did not get there at the wrong time.

I have a battery disconnect switch on one of my vehicles. It is a big knife switch that connects to the post on my top post battery and has a post at the other end that the battery cable goes to. Although they could pop the hood and throw the switch it will take more time just to figure it out, plus they have no lights to see by. Here is a picture picture of the one I have they also have a side terminal model too.

Greetings
I for one like that "knife switch" for the battery. I would think an " in a hurry" thief is not going to search for a power interuptor.

I still think that when someone is caught stealing they should have a thumb cut off. Second time the other thumb. Third a bullet in the brain pan. Of course, I doubt they'd get to a second much less a third conviction. Ever tried to pick up things without your thumbs. Those opposable digits are what separate us from most of the rest of the animals.
I've said this to folks and many come up with the excuse that it wasn't the thief's fault that they steal. Of course these are usually the same ones that think Disney paints a real picture of the animal kingdom.

Mescalero, I have a few ideas in mind, which I will discuss with my FIL the engineer. Another buddy used to build race cars/bikes, and is a master fabricater, my plan is to have a system absolutely undetectable by scumbags, combined with easy use by owner. No ranch trip this week. Will have to get the old ranch truck fired up and serviced.
Re: Saved By the Cold Weather
Looking forward to corresponding with you.

Glad the wife did not interrupt the attempted felony. Hope they catch them. Glad you still have your truck!
Love the kill switch idea.

If you could find a powerful relay-switch that could handle the amperage, it could be concealed in the appropriate place (starter wire I presume) under the hood, then a remote switch placed virtually anywhere on the vehicle that triggered the relay. Even a wireless one could be arranged, and if you went that route, the remote could be on your own keychain.

Someone walking around with a battery powered Sawall is a Pro, not a kid out for a joy ride. Maybe we should introduce them to the Pinal County police force?
