6.5x61 DWM

Post by 6pt-sika »

We have a Mannlicher stocked Mauser that's chambered in 6.5x61 DWM at the shop . Seems it was built by Dickson in Scotland a number of years ago . And I might be able to acquire it . Anyone happen to have a set of those dies laying around ? Looks as if I can make serviceable brass from the 06 line of cartridges . The base diameter would be about 4 thousandths undersize but I think I can live with that . This cartridge was derived back in the 30's but never gained popularity . If I can get it at the right price I wouldn't mind playing with it a bit !

I am a 6.5 fan. If you get I would be interested in hearing more about it.

Here's my ignorant question of the week (Sorry, TERRY  )
Isn't the terminal result because of the bullet? And, the particular brass is merely launching it at a particular velocity?

After mulling this thing over quite a bit , if I'm able to acquire the little rifle I'm thinking I'll taker my 6.5-06 reamer and run it out . The 06 case is only .009" longer then the 6.5x61 case . And since I already have a 6.5-06 reamer and dies

Well I was wrong the first time I searched CH-4D's website for 6.5x61 dies I typed in 6.5x61mm and got nothing . After calling and talking with them I found them by typing 6.5x51 . Set of these is about $85 .

Guy hasn't told me if he's gonna sell for what I offerrred but we shall see . Looks as if 06 oughtta be a close enough fit after I trim about a tenth of an inch and run thru the 6.5x61 sizing die .

From the chamber cast we did and the fire formed 6.5x57 case that was fired in the gun it should be a simple matter to trim .009" of a 3006 case then run it in the 6.5x61 sizing die . It should size the neck down and bump the shoulder back some . I might run the 06 case in a 6.5-06 case first to get the neck down then try bumping the shoulder back .

But I suppose the first thing I need to do is get the little rifle from the guy who owns it LOL's !
