scam

Post by Mescalero »

Just got a call from a very poor english speaker who told me hackers were doing some illeagal activity from my computer.
She wanted me to turn on my computer and do as she instructed me.
I told her I was outside and could not comply.
This is the second one is as many weeks.

Yea, got one of those a while back. Sadly, there are way too many people that are suckered in.

If one were bored, it could be fun to 'scam' them back, by going along with what they said (or pretending to), then somehow working into the conversation that they had called a number deep in the bowels of the NSA, and seeing how fast they hung up the phone...

I seem to get one from India every month claiming to be Microsoft engineering support telling me that my computer is sending some sort of message to them...I emailed Microsoft and they let me know that they never make unsolicited tech calls...

I used tell them that I've been expecting their call, and that it was about dammed time they got around to it.

I'd testily 'remind' them of the terms of their contract to provide (really unusual) fetish porn, and then provide a URL and email address for the PC at the front desk of the local PD. I'd then demand that they upload their monthly quota immediately as I hung up in a huff.

I used to do this to all uninvited solicitors.

My wife made me stop after I did it once while we had company.

A guy just can't have good clean fun anymore.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.
