grip trouble
hey fellers, yesterday I had a surprise.
Old vaquero, 45colt, 8.5 gr. unique behind 255 gr. lead.
I didn't even notice until she was back in the holster and heard a rattle.
anybody think epoxy will fix this? i emailed the manufacturer but I'm not hopeful.
don't believe it was over tightened, but i figure that's what they will claim.
just whining a little, i guess.

Re: grip trouble
Epoxywill hold the broken piece in but there needs to be a spacer in between those grip panels to prevent future pull out. Many folks over tighten the grip screws and end up with that problem.
I buy these little threaded aluminum bushings (1/2"long)at the hardware store and install them between the grip panels. Then you can tighten the grip screws more without that happening.

Re: grip trouble
+1 on the spacer, and maybe some gorilla glue. I've been using that stuff more and more. Can't believe how strong that stuff is and what a wide variety of materials it will bond.

Had that happen to me,I used super glue but be sure to use the prescribed spacers!

.
The tubular (so the gripscrew passes through the spacer) spacer should be at least as long as the width of the gripframe/backstrap.
Since some aftermarket grips have a re-inforcing bolster, inside to support the grepscrew, I always make the spacer too long, then dress it shorter, depending upon the specific gun & the grip's internal construction/contour.

Re: grip trouble
I have had the same happen to a set of grips. I just cut off a piece of an old aluminum arrow for a spacer. I use a copper pipe tubing cutter. Cut it a tad long and dress it down to the same size as the grip frame width. No problems since doing this.

Re: grip trouble
When I've made wooden grips for my Rugers, I actually made the spacer out of wood, and once fitted, attached it (super glue) to one of the grips. Works great.

Re: grip trouble
I had a medallion come out in the first cylinder full of 44 magnum. Ruger replaced them. They put a new barrel on a rifle I told them I bought used that had been rechambered and bulged at no charge! They have sent me small parts to another rifle I bought used for free. They might not be my first choice in some categories of firearms, but Ruger's customer service is impeccable.
Re: grip trouble
I broke a grip like that once, I glued it back together with Micro-bed and its been fine for years.

Re: grip trouble
Now.. Put a spacer between the new ones, so the problem doesn't come back on you..
