Here's some of the guns with the greatest production numbers. In nearly all cases this means they are a great gun. I don't know how accurate these numbers are but expect they are close enough.
AK-47--75,000,000
Mosin Nagant--37,000,000
Remington mod. 870--10,000,000
M-16--8,000,000
Winchester mod. 94--7,500,000
Marlin mod. 336--6,000,000
Remington mod. 1100--4,000,000
Browning Auto-5 (A-5)--Any one know? Second to the 1100, I believe
Welcome additions to this list. Corrections too.

Re: Guns with the greatest production numbers
I suspect the M16 figures are much higher as it is made now in other countries, almost a million were captured by the NVA alone. Wiki claims 8 million but it appears the article has not been updated since 2010.

Re: Guns with the greatest production numbers
I've often wondered about the AK production numbers. About 10-15 years ago, there used to be a TV series called "Tales of the Gun" which had an episode about the AK. IIRC they said approximately 30 million were built. A guy would like to think that a series such as it would do their homework and get the numbers right. Don't know if 30 million is true or not, but if it is, I doubt that 30+million have been made since that show aired. Either way, there's no doubt that the AK series definitely is #1 on the production list.

Re: Guns with the greatest production numbers
Add to my first post.
Browning A5--4,000,000+----from Browning web site.
98 Mauser-(Karabiner 98k)--14,643,260 This is the gun most used by the German's in WWII
Add other Mausers made in other countries and that number would go up quite a bit.
M1 Garand--6,250,000
M1 Carbine--6,500,000
Lee Enfield--17,000,000+ England sure got the mileage out of this one !
Ruger 10/22--5,000,000+
Most of these numbers from Wikipedia. Whatever the source I doubt you'll find the perfect number.
