Thanks for all who have responded When it comes to pistols or revolvers, I have a soft spot for the S&W particularly this model 16-4 and it's older sibling K38 Target Masterpiece, 5 screw.
I'm starting to assemble some brass and dies. As for bullets she's going to be feed a steady diet of cast bullets. Will spend some time sifting through my dad's old loading notes. Can't wait to try her out.

Nice! I'm jealous. Like you, I love Smith DA revolvers. IMO they are the pinnacle of revolver development. They fit like a glove and shoot beautifully. Much as I love Colts, Their DA's don't fit me right. Although most things have degraded in quality over time, to me the S&W's have done so less than most.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

Nice high-end gift.
Is that barrel not pinned?

Non-pinned or recessed chambers. Don't know for sure but I think S&W stopped making P&R back in the mid 80's.wecsoger wrote:Nice high-end gift.

You know, I think the .32 mag is the only caliber I don't have an S&W in. That sir is a beauty. You are one lucky so and so.

I have one of those too, along with a 4" stainless J-frame model 631. Send me a PM with your mailing address, and I will send you a photocopy of an old article about the Model 16s which you'll likely enjoy.
Oh, and my 16 came with finger-grooved Combat Stocks, that I have removed as I put some Rosewood Altamont grips on to match my 686 and 617. Let me know if you might be interested in those and we can work something out.
