Sorta like aspirin for your computer. Those guys always want to keep mine for 2-3 weeks... Can't work without it, so I end up wiping and restoring mine myself. Never perfect... but...JerryB wrote:That must be a relief.

Glad to hear your back in business. #$!@&*#@ computers!
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.
Re: laptop
I tend to buy refurbished ones from outfits like Tigerdirect. Couple hundred bucks for one that will last a few years. Hard drive usually goes first, but that's usually only $40 or so to replace, and since I run linux on them there's no worries on having to reinstall everything.
Re: laptop
Because Candy works from home, lots of electronics in her office; we have a service contract with the geeksquad.
It did not cost me anything.

I hate Puter probs with a passion. So far Mine is working GOOD again. Those pesky little ads were quite annoying. If I use Firefox they pop up but not so on IE. hmmm. Remedy, don't use FF ! Glad Ur back in Business.

Re: laptop
Got fed up w/ the windows PC junk. Crashes, malware, spyware, viruses, etc. Didn't seem like any of them went 2 years w/o slowing to 4WD low range speed, freezing or some other crisis. Bought a Mac, Did cost more, had an issue when hospitalized and didn't have time or stamina to fix so went with the long range support program (gnash, curse, ETC) . But did have some hardware glitch, turnaround, new key board, fixed hardware and cleaned etc,etc- no charge , no shipping , back on second day!!. Macs not used too much in business, and less popular so its not the broad side target that Windows based systems are. This may change but so far the updates and security shames the PC crowd. I may wind up eating these words, but in the second year and the sucker is as fast or faster than when I got it. I know they are "perfect", but it'll take a lot to send me back to Windows. Oh yeah, the popups and other such stuff are few and far between, unlike my office PC.

Those young folks, working the Geek Squad, know their stuff: but I'm disappointed - I clicked on this/your thread because I though you were referring to those dances, you can obtain on your laptop. .

Re: laptop
Never a problem since I started using an I Pad. I let the wife use the desktop and she don't seem to mind the slowness and the constant aggravation. These I Pad's are great. They work almost instantly and nothing ever pops up, unless of course, I get a woodie, but I don't see too many of those anymore.-------6

Six, don't ever change

I have spare machines and keep back-up files.
Gotta be working.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

Re: laptop
Our PC is as slow as molasses this time of year, but we use Fire Fox with Adblock PLus and Flash Block and get no pop ups or weird scrolling adds.
I've been wanting to go to a Mac but 99.8% of our files are Windows based so I don't know how much we'd loose. Makes me and the missus a bit reluctant to switch.
Also after the third hard drive crash last year I rebuilt my files and keep them on a thumb drive. If this stupid computer dies again, I'll just have to plug the TD into the next one and keep on keeping on.

Re: laptop
Burn yourself a linux live CD to see if you can still work with your various files. If the linux system can do it, odds are good a Mac can as well. The live CD will let you boot into a linux system without making any changes to the Windows system on your hard drive (forgive me if you know this already )J Miller wrote: I've been wanting to go to a Mac but 99.8% of our files are Windows based so I don't know how much we'd loose. Re: laptop
When I got my I-Mac a couple years ago, Best Buy took my old 'puter and made a disc for transferring files over to the Mac....
